The Pleasanton Police Department was founded
in 1952. The first Chief of Police was Joe Sanders, who served in
this capacity until 1968. At that time, Sanders was the only
officer for the Pleasanton Police Department. Since 1952, there
have been eight Chiefs of Police. Today, the Chief of Police is
Gary M. Soward , and the department is made up of 20 commissioned
officers, 5 communications operators, 1 data entry clerk, and 2
animal control officers. The department has one
K-9 unit, one certified intoxilyzer operator, a very intense FTO
program, a Crime Prevention Unit, and an Emergency Response Team.
Our officers
are committed to performing their jobs in a professional manner while
serving the community of Pleasanton
and its surrounding areas. The
department encourages the use of community policing practices in order
to provide quality service to all residents.
We
will
always strive to provide the highest quality service, preserving human
rights, lives, and property while reducing fear, and constantly
pursuing the mission goals of the department, the city and the
community.
At the Pleasanton Police Department, we are committed to the highest
professional standards, working in partnership with our citizens to
problem solve and meet the challenges of reducing crime, creating a
safer environment, and improving the quality of life for the citizens
of Pleasanton.
